Continuity of Midwifery Care and Maternal Satisfaction During Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Postpartum Services

Purpose This study examined the effect of continuity of midwifery care on maternal satisfaction during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum services in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, Indonesia.
Methodology A quantitative analytical cross-sectional study was conducted from January to March 2026 among 200 postpartum women recruited through consecutive sampling at four public maternal and child health facilities. Continuity was assessed using a structured seven-item checklist, while maternal satisfaction was measured using the Continuity of Midwifery Care Satisfaction Survey. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, bivariate tests, and multiple linear regression using IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.
Findings The mean continuity score was 5.18 ± 1.29 and the mean satisfaction score was 139.76 ± 13.92. Continuity correlated positively with satisfaction (r = 0.58, p < 0.001) and remained the strongest predictor after adjustment (B = 5.74, β = 0.484, 95% CI: 4.46–7.02, p < 0.001). The model explained 39.8% of satisfaction variance.
Implications Maternity services should strengthen provider consistency, coordinated information, and continuous communication across pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
Originality This study provides context-specific Indonesian evidence by evaluating continuity as an integrated maternity experience across the full care continuum.
