Editorial Process
Editorial Process
WUJUD: Journal of Engineering and Technology
WUJUD: Journal of Engineering and Technology applies a systematic, transparent, independent, and academically responsible editorial process to ensure that every published article meets the journal's scientific, technical, ethical, and publication standards. All manuscripts are processed through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, from initial submission through peer review, editorial decision, production, and final publication.
Editorial Process at a Glance
1. Manuscript Submission
Authors must submit manuscripts through the official WUJUD Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The submitted manuscript must follow the journal's Author Guidelines, official manuscript template, aims and scope, publication ethics, copyright and licensing policy, and other applicable submission requirements.
2. Administrative and Technical Screening
The editorial team performs an initial administrative and technical check before the manuscript is considered for substantive editorial evaluation.
- Completeness of manuscript files.
- Compliance with the official manuscript template.
- Completeness of author names, affiliations, and email addresses.
- Completeness of abstract and keywords.
- Compliance with citation and reference requirements.
- Availability and readability of tables and figures.
- Required ethical and disclosure statements.
3. Similarity and Publication Ethics Screening
Manuscripts are subject to similarity screening using appropriate similarity-detection software. WUJUD applies a maximum overall similarity threshold of 20%, subject to editorial interpretation.
Editors may also examine potential plagiarism, redundant publication, multiple submission, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other publication ethics concerns. A manuscript may be rejected regardless of its numerical similarity score when substantial plagiarism or serious misconduct is identified.
4. Initial Editorial Assessment
The Editor-in-Chief and/or assigned Editor evaluates the manuscript before external peer review. The initial editorial assessment considers:
- Relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
- Scientific and technical quality.
- Originality and novelty.
- Clarity of research gap and contribution.
- Appropriateness of research methodology.
- Quality and relevance of references.
- Potential contribution to engineering or technological knowledge and practice.
Manuscripts that are clearly outside the journal's scope, substantially below the journal's quality requirements, or contain serious ethical concerns may be declined at this stage without external peer review.
5. Editor Assignment
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are handled by the Editor-in-Chief or assigned to a qualified Editor or Section Editor whose expertise is relevant to the manuscript's subject area. Editors must declare and avoid conflicts of interest when handling manuscripts.
6. Reviewer Selection
The responsible Editor selects qualified and independent reviewers based on subject expertise, methodological competence, publication record, academic integrity, institutional diversity, availability, and absence of conflicts of interest.
Manuscripts are normally evaluated by three independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
7. Double-Blind Peer Review
WUJUD applies a double-blind peer-review model. Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors, and author identities are not disclosed to reviewers during the review process.
Reviewer reports should contain substantive, objective, constructive, and academically justified comments concerning originality, methodology, analysis, results, discussion, technical contribution, conclusions, references, and overall scientific quality.
8. Preliminary Editorial Decision
After receiving reviewer reports, the Editor assesses the manuscript and reviewer comments. Reviewer recommendations are advisory, while the Editor remains responsible for the editorial decision.
9. Author Revision
Authors receiving a revision decision must submit a revised manuscript together with a clear point-by-point response to the comments provided by reviewers and editors. Authors should explain how each comment has been addressed and clearly identify substantive changes made in the revised manuscript.
10. Re-Review
Manuscripts requiring major revision may be returned to the original reviewers or other qualified reviewers for another round of peer review. Minor revisions may be evaluated directly by the responsible Editor when external re-review is not considered necessary.
11. Final Editorial Decision
The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief and/or responsible Editor after considering reviewer reports, author responses, revised manuscript, scientific quality, ethical compliance, and journal requirements. The Editor may accept, request further revision, or reject the manuscript.
12. Copyediting
Accepted manuscripts enter the production stage. Copyediting may include:
- Language and readability checking.
- Consistency of terminology and abbreviations.
- Verification of author names and affiliations.
- Consistency of citations and references.
- Verification of tables, figures, captions, and sources.
- Completion of author contribution, funding, conflict of interest, and AI statements.
- Consistency of article metadata.
13. Layout and Galley Preparation
The copyedited manuscript is formatted according to the official WUJUD article layout and journal style. The production team prepares the final article galley, including bibliographic metadata, article history, citation information, tables, figures, copyright statement, and applicable publication license.
14. Author Proofreading
The corresponding author may be asked to review the final proof before publication. Authors should check author names, affiliations, article text, tables, figures, references, and other publication details. Proofreading is intended to correct production errors and should not normally introduce substantial new research content or major changes to the accepted manuscript.
15. Publication and Archiving
After the final proof is approved, the article is assigned to the appropriate journal issue and officially published. The final publication includes accurate article metadata and a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), where applicable.
WUJUD: Journal of Engineering and Technology publishes two regular issues each year in May and November.
Editorial Workflow
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scholarly merit, relevance, scientific and technical quality, originality, methodology, ethical compliance, and journal policy. Author nationality, institutional affiliation, academic status, sponsorship, personal relationships, or financial considerations must not improperly influence editorial decisions.
Conflict of Interest in Editorial Handling
An editor must not handle a manuscript when a personal, institutional, professional, academic, financial, collaborative, or other conflict of interest may compromise editorial independence. In such circumstances, manuscript responsibility will be transferred to another qualified independent editor.
Manuscripts from Editors or Editorial Board Members
Manuscripts submitted by members of the Editorial Team are subject to the same editorial, ethical, and peer-review standards as other manuscripts. The submitting editor will have no involvement in reviewer selection, evaluation, editorial communication, or the publication decision concerning their own manuscript.
Documentation in OJS
Submission records, editor assignments, reviewer invitations, reviewer reports, author revisions, editorial correspondence, editorial decisions, copyediting, production files, and publication activities are managed and documented through the journal's OJS workflow to support transparency, traceability, and editorial accountability.
Commitment to Editorial Quality
WUJUD: Journal of Engineering and Technology is committed to maintaining a rigorous, transparent, traceable, and accountable editorial process. Every published article must pass appropriate editorial screening, publication ethics evaluation, substantive peer review, revision, editorial decision, technical editing, production, and final quality-control procedures before official publication.
