The Journal of Applied Economics & Business (JAEB), published by Velora Indonesia, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics at every stage of the publishing process, including manuscript submission, review, editing, and publication. This ethical statement refers to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to all parties involved, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editorial Board

Publication Decisions

The editor is fully and independently responsible for deciding which manuscripts are eligible for publication based on scientific validity, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope, without being influenced by government policies, commercial interests, or other parties.

Fair Play

The editor evaluates manuscripts solely based on their intellectual merit, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, nationality, or institutional affiliation.

Confidentiality

The editor and editorial staff must not disclose any information regarding a manuscript under review to anyone other than the relevant author, peer reviewers, and publisher.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

The editor will not use unpublished materials contained in a submitted manuscript for personal research purposes without the author's written permission. Editors who have conflicts of interest resulting from relationships, collaborations, or competition with the authors must withdraw from the manuscript evaluation process.

Investigation of Alleged Misconduct

The editor must follow up on every allegation of ethical misconduct involving either submitted or published manuscripts and take appropriate investigative measures in accordance with COPE flowcharts.

Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and may help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts through editorial communication.

Timeliness

A peer reviewer who feels unqualified to review the subject of a manuscript or cannot complete the review within the required period must immediately notify the editor so that the manuscript can be assigned to another reviewer.

Confidentiality

Every manuscript received for review must be treated as confidential and must not be discussed with other parties outside the authorized editorial process.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively and based on scientific arguments, without personal criticism of the author.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers must identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors and report any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript and other works of which they are aware.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must not evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, institutional, or other relationships with the authors.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present research findings accurately, honestly, and objectively, supported by adequate data and relevant references. Data fabrication constitutes unacceptable ethical misconduct.

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must constitute original work. When authors use the work and/or words of others, the sources must be properly cited in accordance with academic standards.

Multiple or Redundant Publication

Authors must not submit a manuscript that is substantially similar to another manuscript to more than one journal or primary publication medium at the same time.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Authors must acknowledge the contributions of others through appropriate citations and cite publications that have influenced the nature and direction of the research.

Authorship of the Manuscript

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the research. All contributors who meet the authorship criteria must be listed as authors, and all authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose research funding sources and any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of the results.

Fundamental Errors in Published Articles

When authors discover a significant error in a published article, they must immediately notify the journal editor to facilitate the correction or retraction of the article.

Plagiarism Screening Policy

Every submitted manuscript is checked for similarity using plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar software, before entering the peer-review stage. Manuscripts with a similarity level above the established threshold, generally below 20–25%, excluding quotations and references, will be returned to the authors or rejected.

Retraction Policy

In accordance with COPE guidelines, the editor may retract a published article when any of the following conditions are identified:

Strong evidence indicates that the research findings are unreliable, whether due to honest error or deliberate misconduct, including data fabrication or falsification;
Plagiarism or duplicate publication;
Research conducted without complying with applicable research ethics standards;
Copyright infringement or other ethical violations.

A retracted article will remain in the journal archive with a link clearly marked as "RETRACTED" and accompanied by an explanation of the reason for the retraction.

Correction and Erratum Policy

Minor errors that do not affect the overall validity of an article, such as typographical errors or errors in supporting data, will be corrected through the publication of an erratum or corrigendum linked to the original article.

Handling Allegations of Publication Misconduct

Every allegation of ethical misconduct, whether reported by readers, reviewers, or other parties, will be followed up by the editor through an internal investigation in accordance with COPE flowcharts. When necessary, the journal may coordinate with the author's institution. The party suspected of misconduct will be given an opportunity to provide clarification before a final decision is made.

Conflict of Interest Policy

All parties, including authors, editors, and peer reviewers, must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could potentially influence the objectivity of the editorial process or the content of a manuscript.

Complaints and Appeals Procedure

Authors who object to an editorial decision may submit a written appeal to the editor-in-chief accompanied by scientific arguments. Complaints related to alleged ethical misconduct may be submitted through the official editorial email address and will be handled confidentially and professionally.

Copyright and Open Access License

Every published article is accompanied by a Copyright Transfer Agreement and a publishing ethical statement from the authors. JAEB applies the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which is displayed on every article galley.
